What does the beginning of a mole look like?
A common mole (nevus) is a small growth on the skin that is usually pink, tan, or brown and has a distinct edge.

How do I know if Im growing a mole?
Look for new growth in a mole larger than 1/4 inch (about 6 millimeters). E is for evolving. Watch for moles that change in size, shape, color or height, especially if part or all of a mole turns black. Moles may also evolve to develop new signs and symptoms, such as itchiness or bleeding.
What age do moles start to appear?
Most babies are born without moles, and most moles appear sometime during childhood, into early adulthood. Almost all moles start to appear before the age of 40.
Why does my mole hurt when I touch it?

When should you be worried about a mole?
If you have any moles that are larger than most, have smudgy or irregular edges, are uneven in colour or have some pinkness, you should see a doctor and get them checked. Any moles that appear newly in adulthood should be checked. The most concerning sign, however, is a changing mole.
Are cancerous moles raised?
“Normal” moles can appear flat or raised or may begin flat and become raised over time. The surface is typically smooth. Moles that may have changed into skin cancer are often irregularly shaped, contain many colors, and are larger than the size of a pencil eraser.
